About African Leadership University

ALU was founded in 2015 to develop a generation of high caliber ethical leaders for Africa. ALU uses a unique and innovative learning model that integrates students’ learning with the real world, empowers students to take ownership of their own learning, equips students to think entrepreneurially, and employs engaging and inspiring teaching methods. It is the first of its kind in the world, leveraging Africa’s lack of legacy systems to ‘leapfrog’ existing universities around the world. Because of its distinctive approach to learning, ALU Education has been dubbed “the university of the future.”

ALU was founded by Fred Swaniker, one of Africa’s most successful social entrepreneurs and is backed by some of the most sophisticated and successful business leaders in the world. In 2016, ALU was recognised by Fast Company as the ‘3rd most innovative company in Africa’ (ahead of Samsung Electronics) and was featured on CNN, which called it ‘The Harvard of Africa’. In February 2017, David Brooks alluded to ALU as one of 8 ‘places in the world where history is being made’.

ALU currently has two campuses, in Mauritius and in Rwanda and also offers an MBA program through ALU School of Business in Rwanda. ALU’s long-term goal is to educate 3 million leaders in Africa by 2060.

ALU’s track record of selecting the most talented students in Africa and training them for jobs of tomorrow, nurturing a strong alumni network, as well as prestigious employer relationships (including McKinsey, IBM, Price WaterhouseCoopers, Swiss Re, Maersk, and more), all make it an ideal introductory partner for ALFC.
